Fyshwick Markets

Wayfinding Solution

Year 4 University Project

The project

Key to a positive shopping experience is a successful wayfinding system that allows consumers to easily navigate an area and find what they need. The Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets’ current signage is only visible from the car park. This results in shoppers having difficulty locating stores. This wayfinding solution will assist shoppers with finding stores and facilities. The system uses signage, maps, posters, directional devices and the markets’ branding to help consumers navigate.

The wayfinding items

Key elements to successful navigation

The system aims to meet the three criteria of navigability. The first is determining one’s location, the second is finding a route to the destination, and the third is using landmarks to build a mental map of the area. The solution uses three wayfinding items – a flyer, map stand and overhead signage – to meet these criteria, and provide shoppers with a favourable experience.
